Henry and Mary Alice (Crook) Sandlin
Notes for Charles Burns
Charles Burns, Sr. was the first to come to America, in 1737, from Lanarkshire County, Glasgow, Scotland, on the Ship Monima, he married Mary Webb, daughter of Merry Webb, Sr. and Elizabeth Martin
Elizabeth Martin is the daughter of Captain Joseph Martin and sister to Captain/General/Brigadier General Joseph Martin II, who married the beloved woman of the Cherokee, Nancy Ward.
Charles Burns, Sr. and Mary Webb divorced; he married second Ann Ray (no children with Ann Ray).
Charles Burns, Sr., married Mary Webb and they had:
Alexander Abner Burns, married Mary Ellen Roach
John Arthur Burns, married Nancy Ann Walker
Samuel Burns married Mary Leslie
Charles Burns, Jr. never married
Andrew S. Burns, we don't know if he married or not or where he died
Ann Burns, married John Jett
Susan Burns, married John Cosby
William Burns, Sr. married Nancy Chandler, married Sarah Bishop, married Mary or Lucy Angell (the only documented marriage for William is with Nancy Chandler, which is documented by the Chandler Family Association)
William may have married all three women; as I said above, the only marriage of William that is documented is with Nancy Chandler. I have contacted others in regards to documentation of the other two marriages, but have received nothing from no one.
All the Burns family in Clay County and surrounding counties, are descended from CHARLES BURNS, SR. and MARY WEBB. Some of these Burns went to South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. They moved around a lot.
Charles Burns, Sr.'s parents were George and Mary Burns
Charles Burns, Sr's grandparents were Rev. Dr. John Burns and Mary Probst
The above were all born in Lanarakshire County, Glasgow, Scotland
All but Charles, Sr. died in Glasgow, Scotland
