What could be a better end to a perfect summer, than to bring home a National 1st place, 6-foot trophy? Shane Green, 12 of Georgetown, entering his first try on a National level competition, showed no fear for the unforgiving hill, before an estimated crowd of 2,000 at the 28th AMA Sanctioned Amateur & Youth National Hillclimb Championship. Riders from 23 states turned out to attempt the 500-foot hill, August 16 & 17, 2003 at Dickeyville, WI., sponsored by Wilwert's Inc., Harley Davidson/Buell/Suzuki/KTM of Dubuque, IA./Galena, IL.
Despite the 90-degree sweltering weather, sandy dry, sun-baked, obstacle-laden hill, Shane conquered 375 feet to clinch the 85cc title. Between 300 and 400 feet, there are stumps, rocks and a dried-out spring that spans across the hill making for a challenging course at Dickeyville. The Yamaha YZ 85 bike has also taken Shane to the leading point standings for AMA District 15 Indiana and AMA District 17 Illinois this year in the 85 cc Junior Mini Class. Shane is the 2003 State Champion in District #17 and 2nd Place State Champion in District #15, also winning King of the Hill.
Shane is a student at Mary Miller Junior High, Georgetown. He is the son of Tracy Green and Penny Pribble, Georgetown. Special thanks to sponsors; Klink's Motorcycle-Specialties of Westville, The Ridge Tavern, Ridge Farm, and Bill & Lanice Green, Georgetown.
